This project challenges the notion of the post office as a center of distribution for goods outside of the city, by envisioning the post office as an exchange post for those within the community. Combining with the program of a donation center, the post office becomes a center of collection and distribution within. The distribution program is envisioned in a space where routine occurs naturally through peripheral programs (cafe, park, leisure) while the activation of exchange happens simultaneously (post, donation).
The intervention seeks to activate a 6800 sqft with a robust program that facilitates exchange in and beyond the site. The urban proposal includes an activation of the 4 acre green space opposite from the site, while recognizing future and proposed urban developments on neighboring parcels.
